HOW DO YOU USE YOUR DESIGN DEGREE AT ABP?
I consider myself the multi-tool of A Bryan Photo. After Bryan is finished shooting, he hands the images to me for all of the post-production. Not being a photographer, I can focus on making the images as beautiful and presentable as possible by doing color work, designing albums, and printing images for presentation.
WHICH PHOTOGRAPHS MEAN THE MOST TO YOU?
Both of these shots were taken on our wedding day by Bryan. The first one is immediately after cutting the cake. I think my wife looks so incredibly beautiful here and want to do everything I can to keep that huge smile on her face.
The other image was captured later that evening. I always wanted to own a home before I got married so that I could carry my wife over the threshold. I bought this house a few months before and was thrilled that I could provide a beautiful place for her to call home.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WEDDING FILM?
The wedding of Teryn and Steve in Calgary, Alberta. This was the ideal couple for a wedding film-shooter: completely laid-back, obsessed with each other, and thrilled that I was covering their day. Not only was the coverage enjoyable, the edit is my favorite. The combination of the footage and story-telling has a beautiful intensity that reflects them perfectly.
PHYSICAL PRESENTATION
My father is a carpenter and took me to work with him a lot when I was a kid. There I developed a love for quality physical products and working with my hands. As a graphic designer, there is a tendency to work exclusively on screen and keep the presentation there. However, I feel photographs are meant to be held and cherished at your finger tips and will continue to make that experience as enjoyable as possible.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Gardening. I finally started eating well and understanding the concept of good food when I married my wife. She is an incredible cook and I am her sous-chef. Owning a home and being able to grow our own ingredients has made that experience so much more special.
Movies. If I had a two hours of freetime, my default would be to watch a movie. I'm a sucker for good drama and love films that pull emotion out of me, for better or worse. Favorite directors include: Wes Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, John Lasseter & Quentin Tarantino.
Outdoors. Growing up near the Smoky Mountains, I often found time to do a day hike or weekend campout with friends. Birmingham has some beautiful state and local parks that my wife and I enjoy with our dog Penny.
