Charlotte & Gabe, Morning Ceremony

Charlotte & Gabe chose a different pace for their wedding ceremony at Blackberry Farm. They chose to have a peaceful morning ceremony on the front lawn, followed by a picnic lunch with close family and friends in a nearby field. I love this serene approach to a wedding day and the mood it creates. As a photographer it allows for very moments to unfold which translate so well to film.

Catherine & Ben, Five Years Later

In April of 2008, I photographed Catherine & Ben’s wedding at her parents home in Meridian, MS. I was pleasantly reminded of this event when Southern Weddings recently voted it one of their top 10 weddings of the last five years. Thinking back, this was actually my first wedding ever to be featured on a blog as there were only a handful of industry blogs established at that time. It’s been great to collaborate with SW’s wonderful team since their inception. The wedding was chosen by their editor, Lara, who had this to say about it:

“Hands down, Catherine & Ben’s celebration is my favorite. It’s still as stunningly beautiful today as it was years ago.”

This wedding still carries weight and significance for me as well. I agree that this event is still ‘stunningly beautiful’ and I don’t think my feelings will change even in twenty years time. Catherine & Ben exude class & grace (I have a 6 page post-wedding thank you note to prove it!), and I will always be reminded of this when I view their wedding photographs. While wedding trends are transient and constantly shifting, imagery of gracious subjects will always remain timeless. I hope you enjoy this walk down memory lane!

A Blackberry Farm Rehearsal Dinner

The evening before the wedding where closest friends gather is much more than a meal. It’s a time of story-telling and foreshadowing of the excitement to come. We feel it’s the beginning of the wedding ceremony, which is why we want to be there. Paige and Stodd’s rehearsal dinner was no exception to this rule. Designed by Calder Clark’s crew, this southern affair was exactly how I like them : full of energy, wisdom, bourbon, corn on the cob, and music. Speaking of music, Stodd joined the bluegrass band at the end of the night and serenaded his bride-to-be with a cover of Old Crow Medicine Show’s Wagon Wheel. I recorded the song and it can be heard on their slideshow from the evening.

Fran & Thomas, Super 8

It was so nice to get away from the cold in January to shoot Fran & Thomas in Rosemary Beach. It’s not every Saturday that I get to shoot during the day and was excited to find out about their midday wedding. Although we didn’t shoot on the beach directly, the coastal culture made for the perfect backdrop for Fran & Thomas. With the sun shining all day, I’m pleased to say I didn’t have to grab my high speed film even once.

Enjoy!

Fran & Thomas, A 30A Wedding

If you have never been to the beaches of 30A, they truly are a site to behold. The only thing I know to compare them to is the Vegas Strip. Like the hotels on the Vegas Strip, each beach has its own theme or personality which has been carefully crafted and designed. This area is the birthplace of New Urbanism where beaches like Watercolor, Rosemary, Seaside (Truman Show, anyone?), & Alys are all built around city centers and walkable neighborhoods.

Needless to say, 30A made the perfect backdrop for Fran & Thomas’ January wedding. Fran got ready at her parents home at Alys Beach, married Thomas at a church in Santa Rosa, and celebrated at the town hall in Rosemary Beach. Our team had an amazing time with this couple. They both are so natural, hilarious and comfortable. My favorite photo from this set has to be the first image of Thomas. When I showed up for his prep photos, he was pounding a large coffee & double pecan waffle from Waffle House while sporting a “15″ cap in honor of Alabama’s latest national title which they had won a week prior. Does it get more southern?

It was an honor to work with the wonderful ladies of Mariée Ami who planned and designed this event.
