Capetown, South Africa

We went around Capetown with a local organization that has done work with the children in shanty towns. We went to two schools and sat in on programs that they put on for us. The last school we went to was having a graduation ceremony for their kindergarten.

Lomo shots of the landscape. Strange to see shanty towns placed on top of soft white sands.

I often let Taylor grab a camera and take a few shots.

And the result wasn't too bad:

A shot of Zac through the Rolleiflex with the 5D.

Thank you so much for these lovely pictures. If you have more please continue to share.
Any word on further things that we can do about the children from shanty towns? Sometimes it is so beautiful, yet at the same time depressing looking at these pictures without the smiling faces. It is hard to imagine what kind of life these children face every single day of their life.

These images really draw emotion, Bryan. It's hard to imagine our own children living in those conditions. What a great opportunity you had to go on that trip. My husband and I hope to go on one similar to it one day.

Taylor got a great shot there. You can see the joy in those little ones' eyes. I bet they always remember you guys just being there and playing with them.

Superb! They really capture that place so well. The one that Taylor took is so bright and full of joy, it's difficult to imagine it's the same country let alone community.
Thanks again for sharing your experience with us.

Through the work of your lens, you have inspired, motivated, captured and shown everyone who views your images and stories to grasp a reality that might have never been presented before. It is a refreshing and sobering sight to have attention drawn to. I am a frequent to your blog and look forward to every new post. The South African posts have struck a fire in me that I hope to not let burn out.

Even though the African photos were enjoyable to look at, the one that caught my attention is the rolleiflex - I love the foreground/background blur (something to do with focal depth, yes?) and the white light around the legs brings them to the place your eye is drawn. Bravo.
