Year in Review

Well, the end of 2008 has come and what a great year it has been! I am always amazed at the new people I meet each year that enrich the life of myself, my family and my staff. Here is a quick video of some of my favorite moments of the year. Can’t wait to see what 2009 will bring.

Laura & John, Oct 18th 2008

Here are some of my favorite images from Laura and John’s beautiful Atlanta wedding on October 18th. The wedding took place at Peachtree Christian Church (my favorite downtown ATL church) with reception at the Capital City Club.

Enjoy the images!

The Beautiful Peachtree Christian Church:

The happy couple!

One of the coolest moments of the wedding day was Laura’s cousin surprising her at the reception. He is a member of the UNC a cappella choir and wasn’t going to be able to make it to the wedding because they were on tour. It turned out that the choir was passing through Atlanta that night and they showed up at the reception to serenade the guests with a few songs. Laura and John were completely floored!

Here is her reaction to seeing them:

Here’s their performance:

I happen to have my H4 Handy Recorder with me and recorded the audio of them singing. It was one of the most touching moments I’ve ever experienced at a wedding.

We used one of the songs I recorded that night for their album design song. Check it out HERE.

I also got the privilege of meeting a bridesmaid named Sara Fay Egan, who works for Todd Events, out of Dallas. We have been in touch with her since the wedding and hope to do some work with her company in the future!
Here she is with her husband at the reception:

Lauren & Tim

Lauren & Tim’s wedding took place on October 18th, in the historical city of New Orleans, LA. Rob, Chase, and I got our first hint of how incredible the day was going to be when we met up with Lauren and Tim the morning of for a little walk around the city. “Just shoot it like a lifestyle shoot”, Lauren told me, and I gladly took her advice (I mean, she is the Creative Director of Martha Stewart Body & Soul).

After our walk about, we followed Lauren as she went to get her hair styled. A few hours later, she was in her dress, ready for pictures.

It’s hard to describe, but during those few hours the guys and I must have fallen into a time machine and traveled back to the 1920′s. I mean, how classic does Lauren look?!

Tim must have followed in his own time machine because when we met up with him a couple hours later, he was sporting his own class. The tie and the hat kill me, and I may have to steal them for my own wedding!

When we reached the ceremony and saw the small intimate gathering of family and friends, it became clear why the day felt so timeless. The day was about Lauren and Tim: their love, friendship, and family. As Lauren stepped down the stone pathway on the arm of her father, there were not only tears of sincerity, but also smiles of joy. After the “I Do’s” and “Kiss your Bride”, Lauren and Tim stayed at the alter as Champagne was distributed, and before the party began, they raised a toast to everyone who had given so much of their own lives to them.

After the tears were wiped away, there was nothing left to do but celebrate.

Here are their answers to our “A Bryan Photo Wedding Questionnaire”:

Q. You must spend $1000 on your husband. What’s his loot?
A. All the great ingredients he would need to cook our family and friends a
great meal.

Q. Were you to serenade your bride, what song would she hear?
A. “You are my Sunshine” on the banjo. That is if I knew how to play the
banjo.

Q. Greatest midnight meal?
A. Pancakes at Kerby Lane in Austin, Texas
Spinach and garlic pizza at Pinochio’s Pizza in Cambridge, MA
Korean fried chicken in New York City
Tom Yum Soup at the Dragon’s Den in New Orleans
Tim’s homemade hot chocolate

Q. All costs covered by Travelocity you have 36 hours to be anywhere…
A. Barcelona, no sleeping for 36 hours just more coffee, chocolate, and wine

Q. Oscar, Grammy, or Pulitzer Prize. Who gets which?
A. Lauren gets an Oscar because she is very theatrical and is an amazing
mimic of people and gestures. Growing up she would wake up really early on
Saturday mornings, and get dressed up in costumes and pretend she was a
movie star or some made-up person and wait for her parents to be done with
their chores so that they could go to the french quarter and people watch.
She has the amazing ability to pretend or act her way out of any situation.
And she has always dreamed of winning an Oscar for costume design…
Tim would win a Pulitzer because he is the intellectual, introverted, writer
type. The quiet one who always has a novel brewing in his head… The artist
type who wrote bad poetry in high school and wore all black and gave his
parents much grief. Plus, he is a really good writer. And he has a
particularly good habit of procrastinating and then staying up all night to
finish whatever he is writing. And I think he has a secret dream of writing
a novel one day.

Q. Whose car is more a mess?
A. Lauren’s. She has been known to be a flea market junkie. She learned to
shop for deals and interesting stuff from her mom who likes antiques too.
Tim just rides his bike everywhere except to the grocery store and when he
goes to put the groceries in the trunk, he sometimes finds “my great finds”
like a random dish or something in the back… It annoys him. I think it is
funny.

Q. If you other were a fruit, which would they be?
A. Lauren is a peach because she is fair and peachy and she is like the
summertime. Tim is not a fruit, he is more of a nut, like a hazelnut because
the flavor is subtle and comforting.

Q. It rains all Saturday. The Netflix guy lives next door. What three flicks
do you borrow?
A. Wem Wenders, Wings of Desire; Jeunet’s, Amelie; Babe The Pig.

Q. Double date from the history book.
A. Louise Brooks, the silent screen actress; Ray Davies from the Kinks. (he
is still alive); Louis Armstrong, Albert Einstein, and a spy

Q. Favorite cartoons as a kid?
A. Foghorne Leghorn from Looney Tunes (Tim), Smurfs, and Strawberry
Shortcake
(lauren)

Q. An hour to roam the mall. Where will you be?
A. the Arcade, or trying to find the exit (tim)
trying to find the car in the parking lot (lauren)
malls freak me out. yeah, me too. i get dizzy in them…

Q. You surprise her by cooking supper. What’s on the menu?
A. I am the cook in the house, I cook every lunch and dinner. She is the
baker and dessert queen. The first thing I cooked for her was cheese and
black bean quesadillas with homemade mango salsa and salsa verde. She still
talks about it…

Q. Your ultimate roll-up-the-rug, dancin‘ shoes mix CD starts with what
tune?
A. “Angel” by Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac. There is nothing like a little
70′s cheese to get you going.

Q. You can book any band for one night with 100 friends. Who’s on the bill?
A. Tom Waits or the Go! Team

Q. What books stack on the bedside table?
A. Oxford American Magazine of Southern Literature; Eat, Pray, Love; Live
the Life You Love, by Barbara Sher; British Vogue; Julie Doucet
(comic/graphic novelist) (I am such a slow reader, these books have been on
my bedside table for 3 years (lauren)
A spy novel by John Le Carre, Food books by Michael Pollan, Harpers Magazine
(tim) (he reads all the time…)

Q. First X-mas Tree?
A. white lights

Q. Give us your winner knock knock joke?
A. I don’t have one, Lauren takes after her grandmother and doesn’t get
jokes, they think about them too much…

Q. Best twenty dollar date.
A. Barbeque at Green Mesquite in Austin and mini golf.

Q. Tell one thing about him or her that makes you laugh.
A. her exaggerated stories, his over-intellectualizing

Q. Who would you say is your groom’s/bride’s celebrity look alike?
A. Tim- Collin Farrel when tim has a beard and looks more scruffy
Lauren gets “you look like…” all the time-some of them have been Juliette
Binoche, Priscilla Presley when she was young and married Elvis, or Anna
Karina, the french actress from the 60′s

Q. What hobby do you regret quitting in your early years?
A. tim-soccer
lauren-clarinet

Q. Winter, spring, summer, or fall?
A. Summers in New England, def not winters!!!, springtime in the south.

Q. The sun is bright, it’s 80 degress, and it is Saturday. Where are you?
A. under a tree with a book and our dog Rosa, our cats too if they would
walk on leashes

Q.An ice cream truck just stopped in front of your house. What are you gonna
get?
A. Lauren-dreamsicle
Tim-ice cream sandwich

A. Head of the Class was more our time. Tim was Eric the tough smart guy.
Lauren was Simone, the sweet red-head.

Q. If you could go back in time, and play the leading role in any movie ever
made, what role would it be and why?
A. Tim-Michael Correleone, the Godfather; Steve McQueen in the Getaway
Lauren-Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde (not because of the guns, but
because of her outfits. They were stylin‘) or any Merchant Ivory film
because their sets are unbelievably beautiful. I’d love to live in one of
their movies.

Q. The Olympic committee just decided they’re going to create a new event.
What would you suggest?
A. lauren-hoola-hoop
tim-free running, where people run through the city and climb on buildings
as obstacle courses

Q. HGTV says they’ll re-do one room in your house and make it incredible.
What room do you chose, and what’s one thing you’d require it to have?
A. lauren-a self cleaning bathroom with heated toilets
tim- (who is an architect) bedroom with a skylight, an east facing window, a
bed that rolls outside with a mosquito net, a king size bed with a memory
foam mattress, walls painted light blue

Q. where have all the cowboys gone?
A. Tim – I don’t understand the question. what does that mean?
(over-intellectualizing… )
Lauren – They all moved to Alabama to work for A Bryan Photo! They wrangle
brides and grooms into answering questions, always roaming around, armed
with their very old fashioned cameras, they capture beautiful moments of
people’s lives in a really sincere, honest, silent, cowboy way… Thank god
for all you cowboys…

In the Spring of the 2009, for the first time (of hopefully many), this A Bryan Photo Wedding will be featured in Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine. Be on the lookout!

Peace. – Caleb

Merry Christmas from A Bryan Photo!

Monday night we had our company party at my home. After we ate dinner, roasted marshmallows, and had a dirty Santa gift exchange, some of us (including my boy Noah) decided to go caroling. We had an amazing time visiting and singing for past clients and old friends.
We thank each of you who regularly follow this blog and want to wish you a very Merry Christmas. We would have loved to been able to visit each one of your front porches and provide some Christmas cheer as a “Thank You”!

Video Studio Tour

I recently recorded a quick video of the studio just to give out of town clients an idea of how and where we work.
I hope to one day have a professional video made, but for now this will have to do!
